Dragon fruit is a beautiful fruit grown in Southeast Asia, Mexico, Central and South America and Israel. The plant is actually a type of cactus.Dragon fruit is low in calories and offers numerous nutrients, including Vitamin C, phosphorus, and calcium, plus fiber and antioxidants.
It is bright pink fruit with scaly outer skin.Because of its outer look, it has a name, dragon fruit.But inside of this scaly outer look, there is white or red fleshy inner part with black seeds.It is sweet and extremely refreshing.
In my Toronto stay, I have seen lots of dragonfruit in the supermarket.But did not happen to taste the fruit.
In India, it is rare to get.But nowadays, in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Goa, Hyderabad we can easily get fruits like Avacado, Dragon Fruit, Raspberry, Blueberry, and much more.have found dragonfruit in typical subji mandi of Pune and bought it.Because now I did not want to lose this chance to eat it.
My kids are not very excited looking at dragon fruit.They even think that why Mumma is not bringing Mangoes.(Yeah, they want Mangoes all season…)
But, after coming home, I was not sure about how to prepare fruit for eating.
So, I have to do a little search and following pictures are my search result.Google is now everybody’s friend.
First, we have to check its ripeness.It should be ripe enough to cut it.Poke the dragon fruit to assess ripeness. It should feel slightly spongy, almost like a kiwi. If it is very firm, leave it for a day or two and check again. The skin should be a bright pink color.
After cutting the fruit, I was amazed at looking its whiter part with black seeds.The inner fruit is very juicy and sweet.It resembles with Kiwi’s insides.
It had a very light sweetness to it.It was very hydrating.Delightful appearance and texture.
Known as pitaya in Hindi, it is a powerhouse of nutrition, equipped with many health benefiting properties.

How to Prepare and eat Dragonfruit
1.Ripen Dragon fruit will cut quite easily.Cut the fruit straight down the middle with a sharp knife.
2.After cutting it, you can separate the fruit into two sections.
3.Just separate outer skin with hand and inner flesh will be separated easily.
4.Now slice up the flesh.Cut in cube size and eat fresh.
