Panchamrut– prasad during hindu religious functions.

During Satyanarayan Katha, Bhagwad Puja, Krishna Janmashthami,Ganapati Pujan,Laxmi Pujan, we found very common Prasad, called Panchamrit. Along with Satyanarayn Prasad, Sheera , we also get Panchamrut. All Hindu Pooja and functions are incomplete without Panchamrit. It is also known as Charanamrit or Charanamrut.During any Puja like Satyanarayan Katha, we get offered with sweet milk like prasad, that is only Panchamrit.

Preparation of any Puja include making of Panchamrit. During any Puja like Ganesh or Laxmi Pujan, symbolically we give bath with Panchamrut.

Why name Panchamrit? Because it contains five ingredients ,mainlt milk,curd,sugar,ghee and honey.These all considered to be auspicious and highly pleasing to the deitites.

Many times, it is garnished with holy basil / Tulasi leaves.Tulsi Leaves are considered more holy as goddess Laxmi reside in Tulsi.

Why Panchamrut or Charnamrut during Puja?

It is considered as very holy Prasad during any Puja. There is significance of Panchmrit elements in Puja functions.

  • Milk is for the blessing of purity and piousness.
  • Yogurt is for prosperity and progeny.
  • Honey is for sweet speech.
  • Ghee is for victory.
  • Sugar is for happiness.
  • Water is for purity.

According to Ayurveda,Purana and Shastra, Panchamrit is made up 5 nectar or ingredients in particular proportion.If we make Panchamrit in proper proportion, it is very healthy and nourishing drink for kids for their growth. Panchamrit is very beneficial for many things.It is good for pregnant women as well as kids.It is good recipe for brain function.You can keep it for 5-6 hrs at room temperature.Then, you need to refrigerate it for long life.

How To Make Panchamrit

Panchamrit is offered as Prasad during all Hindu Puja functions.


  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/8 cup curd (dahi)
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon honey
  • 4 teaspoon ghee


  • 1.Take curd in a bowl and whisk it till it becomes smooth.
  • 2.Add milk,sugar,honey and ghee to it.
  • 3.Mix it well.
  • 4.Garnish with Tulsi leaf.
