Bharleli Bhendi chi bhaji is another delicious Maharashtrian recipe of okra or Bhendi. It means stuffed Okra vegetable. Bharleli Bhendi is very simple Maharashtrain recipe with a masala of peanuts.Cooking Bhendi is very simple and quick process.Its just masala  preparation and filling in Bhindi take 5 more minutes.

This is my mom’s recipe and she makes it often with dal rice.There is one more recipe for stuffing which is very famout in Maharashtra, Bharleli Karli.The way to make massala or filling is almost similar.We always use roasted peanuts and roasted grated coconut in such fillings.

If the mixture turns very dry and could not fill in the vegetable, we can grind garlic and fresh coriander leaves or one small onion to give moisture to this masala. Using this ingredients,it gives a really good taste and flavor to the stuffing.These vegetables take little more oil to cook.

Bharli Bhendi | Stuffed Okra

Bharleli Bhindi is very nice Maharashtrian vegetable.The stuffing of peanuts and coconut is filled in Bhindi.It is Maharashtrian version of Bharwa Bhindi.

Ingredients

  • 300gm Bhindi / Okra
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • a pinch of asafetida
  • chopped coariader leaves
  • For filling
  • 5-6 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
  • 1/4 cup grated and roasted coconut
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp goda masala / garam masala
  • salt as per taste

Instructions

  • 1.Wash Bhindi and wipe it clean.Remove both ends and make a slit inside it to fill the masala.
  • 2.Heat a pan and add peanuts to roast.
  • 3.Once it starts roasting, add grated coconut.Once it changes it color,add sesame seeds and roast it for 1 minutes.Switch off the flame.
  • 4.Once cool, add this mixture to the grinder with garlic,salt ,coriander leaves and goda masala.
  • 5.Mix this mixture nicely and fill in the slits of bhindi tightly.
  • 6.Heat oil in pan , add cumin seeds and asafetida, add Bhindi in the pan.
  • 7.Cover with lid and put it on low flame.
  • 8.It will take 15-18 minutes to cook.Stir in between so it should not burn.
  • 9.Once done,garnish with coriander leaves and serve with hot roti.
