How to Make ‘Masale Bhat’?

Masale Bhat is very special Rice Dish in Maharashtra. This Masale Bhat is specially made in Marriages and many of the Maharashtrian functions.
This is very special rice dish with lots of flavors of masala and peanuts. Peanuts are special ingredient in this recipe.It has many vegetables like cauliflower, green peas, and onions.

Peanuts is another ingredient, after coconut, widely used in Maharashtrian cuisine. Many green vegetables get sprinkled with peanut powder. Peanut are widely used in vrat, upwas – fasting ceremony or during festivals.

We prepare Masale Bhat for Guest or during festivals. My favorite combination is Aamras Puri and Masale Bhat. I like Masale Bhat which my Mom makes for us. I cook masale bhat on many occasions, everyone in the family loves it.
2 cups Basmati rice
5 to 6 Curry Leaves
1 tsp. Mustard Seeds
2 tsp. Cumin seeds
Pinch of hing
3 tsp. Coriander seeds
1 inch Cinnamon stick
5 Cloves
2 Bay leaves
1 Onion sliced
1 Potato cubed
2 tsp. Ginger paste
4 tsp. Peanuts
2 tsp. Red Chili powder
1/2 tsp. Turmeric powder
2 tsp. Goda Masala

1.Wash Rice with water and soak it for 15 minutes.

2.heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon stick ,cloves, mustard seeds and curry leaves with a pinch of hing. Sauté for a while.
3.Then add onion and sauté till it becomes translucent. Add ginger garlic paste. Mix it well.
4.Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and peanuts. Saute till everything get a nice mix.
5.Add rice ,potato, salt and goda masala. Pour sufficient warm water and let it boil for 10 minutes.
6.After all the water is soaked into rice, reduce the gas to low heat and let it cook for again 5-7 minutes.
Garnish with coriander leaves or mint leaves.Serve ‘Maharastrian Masale Bhat’ with Curd or Raita.
