Rava Coconut Ladoo

Rava Coconut Ladoo is a mouth-watering sweet, made especially in Diwali.Ind Diwali, Indian household will have all types of sweets like Karanji, Ladoo,chivada, chakli,shankarpale and much more.(These are all Marathi words) The varieties of sweets vary from region to region, from city to city.
Even, back at my home my mom and aunty used to make many varieties of ladoos like pithicha ladoo(wheat floor ladoo), Rava ladoo, Rava Mava ladoo, Rava coconut ladoo and besan ladoo.I remember I used to go and open her cupboard for all these special ladoos.And in few days, they used to vanish.She kept on saying I don’t know who is having so much ladoos in few days 😉 No wonder, it was me only.I had a sweet tooth in those days, even today also I have it.But this weight loss culture destroyed my sweet tooth;-( …
Just like me, my son has sweet tooth and always opens cupboard and fridge to find something sweet.
So, I thought I will give a try for ‘Rava coconut Ladoo’ and satisfy my son Aditya’s sweet hunger 😉
Fresh coconut is always best for making these ladoos.In Diwali days, we generally have these in our pantry, so I grabbed few coconut and made some coconut burfi and few Rava Coconut Ladoo.

Why is Rava used in coconut Ladoos?

Rava means granulated wheat, fine flour from wheat.
Rawa or Rava is best known in Rava Laddoo, is a popular Indian sweet which is prepared on festivals like Diwali.
Sooji Ka Halwa/Rava Sheera is another Indian-inspired dessert that has a pudding-like texture. We can make coconut ladoo also, just like coconut burfi wit only sugar and little milk.
Using rava in sweet recipes helps as a good and fine binding agent.It absorbs all moisture from coconut and gives little firmness to these Ladoos.

  • 1 cup fine rava
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut/frozen coconut
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 water
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • raisins for garnish


  • 1.If you have fresh coconut, grate it or you can buy frozen coconut also.
  • 2.Add rava and 2 tbsp ghee into pan and put it on medium heat.Roast rava till nice aroma comes for 5-7 minutes.Do not roast to change the color.It should stay in white color.
  • 3.Now in same pan, take coconut and add 1 tbsp ghee and roast it for 3-4 minutes.Make sure, it should not burn.
  • 4.Mix rava and cconut together.Take sugar and water in pan and make sugar syrup till single thread consistency.
  • 5.After syrup is done, turn heat off.Add rava and coconut mixture to this suar syrup.Add cardamom powder and allow it to rest for 30 minutes.
  • 6.All syrup gets soakced in rava, that time you can start rolling ladoos with your hand.Apply little ghee on hand, so mixture does not stick to your hand.
  • 7.Put raisin on ladoo while making ladoo, it will give nice look to your 'Rava coconut ladoos'.
  • Store these ladoos for a week, as it has fresh coconut.But, you know in my home 7 days is long time, it will finish in 3-4 days.
