Maharashtrian Misal Pav

Misal Pav

Misal Pav is very special dish in Maharashtra and a kind of signature Breakfast dish. It is very famous in Kolhapur and Pune. .In the recent year Nashik has emerged as Misal Capital where maximum varieties of Misal are available. Nashik is my home town and whenever I goes at my place, we have this lovely misal pav at various restaurant like Sadhan Misal Pav(Culivarachi Misal). It is one of my favorite place and we generally land there early morning around 8.30 am in night dress. It is always served with curd, papad and sweet Jalebis. Lovely memories….

Misal pav @ ‘shri nath’, Lakshmi road’s restaurant ,Pune which is very famous. It is not breakfast recipe, but we can have it as light meal also.It is basically sprouts curry with lots of onion,farsan/shev served with pav.

Fadtar’s misal at Kolhapur is one of the kinds restaurant and has long history from 1968.It has such small place and a very big name in Kolhapur. We were surprised by looking at this restaurant. It took us 40 minutes to enter into such a small room where people are sitting on old benches and metal tables and grabbing bites of this lovely ,spicy and kolhapuri misal with bread slices. Solkadhi was served as accompaniment.

After having lots of outside misal pav, I gave it a try in my lazy kitchen.I generally make very simple , but I found this traditional version on internet and prepared so much today. Lots of sprouts, lots of farsan, with onion, lemon tastes very great!!!
You can have fresh Pav or bread slices with this.
Misal pav is mostly prepared in layer, I have mentioned them at the end of this post. Traditional dish prepared in layer like,
2.Batatyachi bhaji/ potato sabji
3. Matki usal
4.Chopped onion
7.Garnish with coriander
But if you don’t want to make it so complicated and be it in simple manner, prepare your misal pav as
 1.Matki usal
2.Chopped onion
